Though primarily regarded as a great composer of symphonic works, Sibelius also wrote more intimate music, such as his moving Valse triste, which considerably increased the composer’s notoriety beyond his native Finland. The violinist, Alena Baeva, will then interpret his Violin concerto, which is possibly the composer’s most renowned work. Written in a romantic vein, the concerto is melancholic, evoking typical landscapes of the north. Richard Strauss’s irresistible Till Eulenspiegel brings an exuberant touch to the end of the concert.
