Krzysztof Urbański Conductor
Nicolas Altstaedt Cello
Orchestre National de Lille
In a class of his own, the conductor Krzysztof Urbański will make the orchestra sing with the folk music of his country. In Orawa, Wojciech Kilar (also a famous film composer), draws inspiration from the traditional music of the Polish mountains. Written in honour of Rostropovich, Lutosławski’s Cello concerto is a modernist work, which will resound brilliantly under the bow of Nicolas Altstaedt. Since its premiere in 1970, the work has become a 20th century classic. Though difficult to tell whether Dvořák drew on Czech or Native American folk music for his New World Symphony, the marvel of his score makes this work an enduring concert hall hit.
