Premiered in 1925, the Symphony No.7 is one of Sibelius’s last works. The Finnish composer crystallises a life of invention in this extraordinarily powerful single-movement score, with which Alexandre Bloch brings the Sibelius series to a brilliant close. Dedicated to the Archduke Rudolph of Austria, Beethoven’s Fifth piano concerto later acquired the title Emperor due to the noble and solemn character of the work. Beethoven looks towards the future in this work, which heralds the advent of romanticism. The majestic concerto will be interpreted by the highly accomplished Swiss pianist, Francesco Piemontesi.
