BEETHOVEN
Symphony No.4

SCHUMANN
Symphony No.1, Spring

Swann Van Rechem Conductor
Orchestre National de Lille

In 1806, while staying at the summer residence of his patron, Prince Lichnowsky, Beethoven met Count Franz von Oppersdorff. As a long-standing admirer of Beethoven, the Count commissioned from the composer a light-hearted symphony true to the spirit of Haydn for his small orchestra. The resulting symphony is both light-hearted and profound. Schumann captures this same type of luminosity in his Spring Symphony. The German composer outlined a vast symphonic score in just a few days. Galvanised by his happy union with Clara, he imagines a bouncy, mischievous symphony, which will be conducted here by conductor Swann van Rechem, 1st Prize winner of the Besançon 2023 International Competition, where he was also voted ‘Coup de Coeur du Public’ and ‘Coup de Coeur de l’Orchestre’. This is an opportunity for the public to discover this young prodigy from Lille, who trained at the Tourcoing and Lille Conservatoires.
