According to 155 composers who responded to a survey conducted by France Musique, Written on Skin is the “most striking contemporary work of the beginning of the 21st century”. Since its premiere at Aix-en-Provence in 2012, George Benjamin’s opera has been admired for its dramatic force and the beauty of its music. Inspired by a 12th century legend from Provence, Martin Crimp’s libretto paints unforgettable characters enflamed with passion. A faithful interpreter of Benjamin’s music, Alexandre Bloch will conduct a concert performance of the opera with a magnificent vocal cast, including Lauren Fagan and Evan Hughesse who form a brilliant central duo.
