The subject of endless conjecture and narrative, the Requiem stands out as a legendary work in the history of music. We cannot tell to what extent Franz Xaver Süssmayr, who completed the unfinished score, drew on Mozart’s previous drafts or directions uttered in agony by the composer on his deathbed. To interpret this mythic score, Kristiina Poska will conduct an internationally renowned choir from her home country, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Paying tribute to her origins, the musical director of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra will also conduct works by Tõnu Kõrvits, a contemporary composer born in 1969, who draws inspiration from Estonian folk music.
The Flanders Symphony Orchestra has been invited by the Orchestre National de Lille as part of its concert season.
