The clarinet takes pride of place for this last chamber music concert by musicians from the ONL. Further to a request by Johann Hermstedt, regarded as one of the 19th century’s greatest clarinettists, Spohr composed his virtuoso Fantasy and Variations in 1813 on a theme drawn from the opera by Franz Danzi. As for the Clarinet quintet, one of Mozart’s masterpieces, it is construed like a delicate dialogue between the clarinet and the string quartet.
