From Bach’s famous fugue, initially for the organ, to the swing of Armstrong’s American brass band, this Flash concert takes us on a tour of the brass quintet. Though relatively recent, the repertoire specifically composed for this ensemble is nevertheless extremely rich.  Marked by the momentum of American musicians and post Second World War jazz, its scope has been broadened by more classical contemporary works, such as Vladimir Cosma’s Courts métrages and arrangements and transcriptions of older repertoires. And of course, a series of fundamental works in the repertoire, the quintets composed at the start of the 20^th century by Victor Ewald, a Russian engineer.
