“My first live music screening” is a fun and entertaining introduction to five short films chosen for the wealth of their graphic art and a common thread that celebrates difference. Clemence Gaudin on the double bass and Bruno Godard on the bassoon and ukulele do voices and make sound effects while revisiting the repertoire with panache. Their secret is a subtle combination of classical rigour and jazz improvisation, which they synchronise perfectly with the characters’ action in the film. At the same time, they spotlight two instruments that are often hidden at the back of the orchestra as well as an array of  well- and lesser-known melodies which, from Rossini to Delibes and Mozart to Stravinsky, celebrate three centuries of musical invention.
