Miroirs Étendus
Miroirs Étendus is in residency at the Orchestre National de Lille.
Britten and Ligeti (whose 100th anniversary is celebrated this year) were born ten years apart yet lightyears seem to separate them. The first embodies a revival of classical exuberance that struck an entire generation, whereas the second, an ambition for modernism that drove him to explore the most radical forms of composition. Despite this, their music does share a common trait: a darkness from which bursts forth brilliant light. In Britten the light is dazzling, in Ligeti, it is blinding. In this concert, Miroirs Étendus explores these sonorities using a sound system designed by Othman Louati, which brings together the extremes of each composers’ music.
