Dvořák was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America when he wrote his Cello Concerto. Legend has it that the Czech composer was inspired to use the rich tonality of B minor while listening to the sound of the Niagara Falls. The renowned cellist, Zlatomir Fung, will interpret this fundamental work in the instrument’s repertoire. Both other works in the programme also have the particularity of having been composed in the United States. Immediately acknowledged as a 20th-century masterpiece, Dutilleux’s Métaboles gives each desk in the orchestra a chance to shine. Lastly, the brilliant French conductor, Lionel Bringuier will give full-throttle to the incredible rhythmic power of Roussel’s Symphony No.3, a work commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra from the Tourcoing born-and-bred composer
