Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes

Pierre-Laurent Aimard Piano
Orchestre National de Lille
The renowned pianist, Pierre-Laurent Aimard will play Bartók’s explosive second piano concerto. After the relative failure of his first concerto, the Hungarian composer wanted the second to be a virtuoso and captivating work, an ambition he unequivocally fulfilled. In Helles Bild, our composer in residence, Alex Nante, offers us a broad palette of orchestral colours inspired by a sublime painting by Kandinsky. Premiered in 1945, Peter Grimes was instantly acknowledged as a masterpiece. Situated on the English coast, it tells the story of a man on the fringe of a fishing village community. Benjamin Britten delivers sublime pages imbued with ocean spray, from which the Four Sea Interludes are extracts.
