The ensemble from Ghent, Spectra, offers us a programme devised as a homage. First, to poetry, with Daniel d’Adamo’s Les filles aux yeux bandés, a musical counterpart to the eponymous poem by Maurice Maeterlinck, a Nobel Prize Laureate for Literature. In Avec diamants extrêmes, Filip Rathé transposes into music the first line of La jeune Parque, a poem by Paul Valéry. But homage is also paid to musical memory. Différences, Berio’s hybrid piece for live ensemble and recording, is one of the first works composed for this combination. As for Painted Pyramids, it is a personal commentary by the composer, Luc Brewaeys, on his own piano piece Pyramids in Siberia, to which he adds colour and depth by introducing new instruments and live electronic music.
