ROSSINI
Sonata for strings No.1
DVOŘÁK
Serenade for strings
Joanna Natalia Ślusarczyk Conductor
Orchestre National de Lille
Whatever the form, serenade or sonata, this programme is a joy for strings! At a mere twelve years old, Rossini composed the Sonata for strings No.1– his youth evidently immaterial to the value of the work– and played the double bass part at its debut performance. Joanna Natalia Ślusarczyk, second prize winner at the prestigious La Maestra Competition in 2022, will conduct this vivacious programme. Written in 1875, Dvořák’s Serenade for strings pays tribute to the nocturnes of the 18th century, which were performed outdoors. Alternating between intimacy, charm, and melancholia, these five pieces formed an exquisite wedding gift from the composer to his young wife, to whom the work is dedicated.
