Schoenberg’s violin concerto is a masterpiece not to be missed. In 1934, while exiled in the United States, the Austrian composer decided to pay tribute to the Brahms violin concerto. The resulting thirty minutes of sheer virtuosity will be interpreted by the brilliant Renaud Capuçon. Though rarely performed, La Péri by Paul Dukas is a marvellous celebration of the orchestra. The work unravels an opulent fabric against which each instrument shines out. To complete the multiple-layered colours of this concert, François-Xavier Roth will conduct the sublime quintessence of Iberian dances, Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole.
