Beethoven is always full of surprises. He is as explosively vivacious in the Coriolan Overture as he is sublimely lyrical in his Fourth piano concerto. The brilliant pianist Marie-Ange Nguci, whose career the Orchestre Naional de Lille has followed from the outset, will be our precious guide in the interpretation of this inordinately graceful work. In the second half, Alexandre Bloch will continue his exploration of northern European symphonies. Written in 1919, the Symphony No.5 figures amongst Sibelius’s most popular works. In its thrilling finale, the horns burst forth with a sumptuous tune evoking swans in full flight across the sky.
