SCHUMANN
Symphony No.1, Spring
Anna Sułkowska-Migoń Conductor
Orchestre National de Lille
In 1806, while staying at the summer residence of his patron, Prince Lichnowsky, Beethoven met Count Franz von Oppersdorff. As a long-standing admirer of Beethoven, the Count commissioned from the composer a light-hearted symphony true to the spirit of Haydn for his small orchestra. The resulting symphony is both light-hearted and profound. Schumann captures this same type of luminosity in his Spring Symphony. The German composer outlined a vast symphonic score in just a few days. Galvanised by his happy marriage with Clara, the work he imagined is both vivacious and playful. It will be performed by the conductor Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, winner of the La Maestra Competition in 2022.
