Orchestre National de Lille
The Concerto for piano No.3 is regarded as the Beethoven’s first major concerto. The story goes that, not having enough time to write the piano part, Beethoven improvised at the premiere of the work. The masterpiece will be supremely interpreted by the outstanding musician and Irish pianist, Barry Douglas, gold medallist of the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986. The Symphony No.1 is one of Dutilleux’s greatest works. The art of variation and sense of orchestration deployed by the composer from Douai is simply extraordinary. Bringing the concert to a close, Jean-Claude Casadesus will conduct the astounding Valse by Ravel.
