The ONL is delighted to welcome the Orchestre de Picardie and its new Music Director, Johanna Malangré, for this ambitious programme. For many, it is a chance to discover the Concerto for string orchestra, a mid-20th century work by the renowned Polish violinist and composer, Grażyna Bacewicz. Milhaud’s Jeux de Printemps, a six-part divertissement, dates to the same period and is described effectively by the titles to each movement: Alerte, Gai, Tranquille, Robuste, Nonchalant and Joyeux. Mozart had just turned 18 when he composed his Symphony No.29, a joyful work which breaks with the galant style that typified other symphonic works at the time. A wonderful evening to look forward to!
